The weather today was dismal. There were dark clouds covering every corner of the sky, releasing every ounce of moisture they had reserved within their fluffy bodies, causing a collective response from any human head that was hit. Misery. In a weird way, even though he wasn't a fan of rain exactly, the thought of others, those who he considered lower than himself, in a state of sadness was almost uplifting. As he paced the corridors of his school, the halls of Hogwarts, his footsteps had a strange ring to them. The students, the other teachers, even the various magical creatures that wandered the stone mazes, their footsteps were heavy, the weight of their emotions apparent in everything. Phoenix's, however, were full of life, not affected in the slightest by the weather. In fact, it took everything within him not to whistle as he passed each and every frown.
With every step that Phi took, he began to think about where he was going. The Room of Requirement was a well-known magical addition to the castle, yet very few people actually knew of it's hidden location. Of course, there were certain charms that Phoenix himself had placed around the entrance of the room to hide it to people under 5th year. He believed that anybody below the level of Prefect would not be responsible enough to treat this room with the respect it deserved. The Room of Requirement was a magical force amongst itself. Much like the castle, in contained magic so old, that no matter how much he studied it, he couldn't quite figure out how it hadn't faded over the centuries. He could recreate the spells, and he could refresh spells so that they as good as new, but there was something that no wizard in all of history, other than the one who laid the charms in the first place, could figure out. After reading journal after journal, documentation left behind by previous headmasters, he read how every single one of them had studied what he had. Most of them couldn't even recreate the magic, some could, but nowhere near the level it was originally intended.
Today, the magic within the Room of Requirement was one of the reasons Phoenix was headed there right now. It was rapidly becoming an obsession, finding out what it was that was put behind every spell in this castle, what caused every charm and curse to live unnaturally long without needing any maintenance. He needed to know. It was one of the few challenges he had left to tackle. In fact, it was now becoming his everest, the one thing he needed to defeat before he could personally consider himself ready. His plan was flawless, to build an army worthy enough to take down the entire pureblooded community, yet he'd heard about the school and it's lack at protection in the last major wizarding war. It couldn't even withstand the giant's clubs, as they beat against it's stone structure, caving in like butter under a hot knife. Well not this time. If Phoenix was going to go ahead with his plan, he was going to make sure his school would stand, no matter what was thrown at it. This castle would become his legacy. An indestructible structure of stone and magic, the only true protection against anything or anyone that stood in opposition to him.
It was only a matter of time until this happened, but even as Phoenix paced outside the thinking of a room where he could practice his magic, he couldn't help but allow thoughts of how he would manage it to slip into his head. Lost in mixed thoughts, he didn't even notice when the door appeared at first. All he could think about was entering the room to practice the spells he'd created to turn the castle into a fortress, whilst at the same racking his brain for the ancient magic that was required to keep the spells from ever fading. It wasn't until he heard a faint click behind him that Phi turned to see the door leading to the Room of Requirement, displayed in all it's glory as if it had always been there.
Yet there was something about it today, Phoenix noticed as he got closer. There was some other magic, as old as the kind he was researching, within the door itself. It almost appeared to give off a faint glow as he approached it. Hesitating, he bought a hand to the smooth, polished wood, resting a palm amongst it, preparing to push. However, a warm, numbing feeling suddenly jumped from the wooden door into his body, feeling him with an uncomfortable feeling, almost like a testing process. Before he knew it though, the sensation was over, and the weight of the door seemed considerably less, allowing him to push it open with ease. What the bloody hell wa-- He thought, before his thoughts were cut short, the image before him too much for any single thought to consume his mind.
The room he entered was not at all like the one he usually imagined, nowhere near. Phoenix walked into a room decked out in blues, whites, silvers... all sorts of materials fit for royalty decorated every inch of the room. All things considered, it was a small room. An overly decorated study by the looks of things. However, who would use such a room hidden away as a study? Especially one so heavily guarded as this. And then that's when he noticed it. The black book amongst the stand off to the side, locked by a single silver clasp. The closer he got to it, the more he felt as he was actually being drawn to it. it was almost as if there was a magnetising aura around the leather bound pages. Finally, when Phi arrived at the book, he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. It just looked like a regular book. That is, until a tiny flash appeared on the front cover, leaving behind two simple words in silver print.
Rowena Ravenclaw.
With the same hesitant actions he had used at the door, Phoenix touched his fingertips to the cool, silver clasp, watching in awe as the metal fell apart, leaving the book open for him to read. Maybe the answers he sought were contained within this book. Picking it up, he moved to an armchair a few feet away, sat down, and began to read the book from the beginning.
